Sometimes it's funny how life works out. On November 10, 2001 in Camp Pendleton, CA at 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, I separated from the United States Marine Corps after nine years in the Infantry. It was great fun, and I am proud to have served with some of the brightest, most dedicated people in the world.
I left the military seeking a challenge. I had no idea how completely my wish was going to be granted.
With my leadership experience and bachelors degree I thought I had it made. Little did I realize that the dotcom crash of the time was crowding the field with people who had far more experience in the civilian work force.
After three long months of searching, I landed a job with an IT Consulting company in Southern California. This was a pretty neat trick for a grunt with a finance degree and no computer experience outside a lab (if you're a systems admin with a large company you're probably shaking your head and thinking "typical").
During this period, I still believed that professional success was found at the top of some ladder in the corporate world. Eventually, I came to realize that Small Business is where I would find real satisfaction. And not just any small business... I wanted my own small business.
After devoting a lot of time, energy and money to research, I discovered that the best possibility of success for your own business is on the Internet.
If you're just starting to look into the possibility of making money online, at some point you will experience an information overload. When that happens, it's important to remember to stay focused.
There is a tendency to get distracted by all of the possibilities. But as with anything else, stick with one thing until you have mastered it, then build on it.
Now that the hype of the late '90's is gone, most folks have finally realized that the Internet is not a mass communication medium. It's a way to communicate with one single individual, replicated hundreds, or thousands of times.
